Yay!

Got my Internet connection today! Cable baby....
Still sitting on a half laminated floor, but online nonetheless.
I'll get you all up to date this weekend...

Thanks for sticking around! :)

Hey everybody

Move went well, job is great! Still camping in my apartment, no fridge, no floors, no Internet connection, very little knitting, but all is good.
I'm working on coming back online, so bear with me.

P.S.

It's ridiculously hot outside, baby goats are being born, and more such craziness. The snow had to go...

Quickie

Ok then, a real quickie: I've been running around like a madwoman this past week, so I haven't found much time to hang online.
Worked on my awesome apartment all weekend till late in the evening, painting the walls and such, and then started my new job last Monday.
Crazy timing, but's everything's going well; my colleagues seem like a great bunch of people and I got a big bouquet of red flowers sitting in my unfurnished concrete flat. I'm not really starting until next Thursday, but in the mean time I'm doing some paperwork and getting to know the organization. Yup, I think I'm gonna like it there.

As for the apartment, you're going to get the total Before shots, so pre-paintjob. The Next Befores will have to wait until next week, after the move on Sunday. All walls are getting the white treatment first, and then I'll let time and lighting decide what's next colorwise. And there's a lot of work still ahead: Never knew that putting in laminate flooring is such tricky business. Sure, I'm saving over €330,- doing it myself, but holy shit does it SUCK...

Bye for now, wish me lots of Peace and good old "having-my-shit-togetherness"...

Homegirl got a home!

I got it!!!!! Signed the contract and picked up my keys this afternoon!
As of today, I'm the proud renter of a four-room apartment in the absolute worst frakkin' part of town. But it's mine! (Ok, and the social housing association's...)
I'm going over there with dear papa tomorrow to measure the rooms and find carpeting, laminate flooring etc. And the good part: wall paint. (I had the color schemes figured out before I even knew I had the place. A girl can dream, you know.)

In knitting news: lots of public transport equals lots of quality knitting time. I managed to squeeze in a couple more lace repeats on the new sock, which is of course Monkey! (Nobody guessed, what's up with that?!)
First I didn't like the purling bits -lots of rows start and end with a bunch of purl stitches- but I'm getting the hang of it. The yarn also feels softer now that I've tried to knit more relaxed, a little looser. I'm doing it on my 2mms, where perhaps a 2.5 mm should have done the trick. We'll see. I'll bravely keep on keeping on.

Has anybody else done this sock? Did it bump and curl up the way mine does? Plus the most important question: will it block the hell out?!

And finally, I signed up for the Knittyboard's Secret Pal 8 and Sock Exchange and I'm really looking forward to those. One (whole!) pair of adult socks finished by February 28th! Waaahhhhh!!!
Nah kidding, should be doable if I'm on a deadline. And otherwise I'll just pull a midnight knitting session channeling Stariel and crying my eyes out for being such a procrastinator. Good times.

I'd originally wanted to sign up, and even had a reservation for the Rockin' Sock Club - Oh Blue Moon Fiber Arts, how I love thee and thine hippie yarns of Paradise - but that is really outside of my budget this year. Maybe in 2008.

Maybe I'll post pics of my house tomorrow. For now I'll go dream of color schemes and having my cat back in his natural habitat; on my lap. (How I miss my little kittycat who's still in the US having a blast. How shall I break the news to him about apartment living?)

On the needles

While the new year is still fresh and shiny, I have my first FO to report:

The rabbit hat is all done and was worn by yours truly to the SnB last night. It still looks a bit wonky though... Are you maybe supposed to block hats?

Then last night, in the spirit of the Super Important New Year's Resolution of Finishing What You Start, I actually took out the Cardigan of Ultimate Doooommmmm, and finished the shawl collar baby:

Now all that's left on this sucker is sewing in the other sleeve, and closing the side seams. Please let me have this thing done before it's officially been two years... How's that for skill level?!

And in anticipation of my hour-long commute that's going to start next Monday, I cast on for this:

I'm using the yarn I received from Lies last week, and although I love the way it knits up colorwise, it's as if I'm knitting a scouring pad. OMG, the stuff's hard! I hope it softens up after I've washed or worn it... Any guesses as to what it's going to become? (No smartass, not a scouring pad...)

In other news: I'm a *cough* D-list *cough* blogger.

Thanks for the link, Lisa; that's a great challenge for 2007 right there! (And I humbly bow to your C-list greatness. ;)

Happy New Year!

What was it again? "Yesterday's but a memory, tomorrow's only a dream." And today's a bitch the one reality we can actually sink our teeth into...
Bite away!

My desktop and I wish you all a spectacular, productive, easy-going, creative, fun, and loving 2007!

(That's an oliebol; I believe the original predecessor of the donut.
Here
's a recipe. Enjoy!)
